-Store bought pizza or bread dough, rolled, then cut in half or quarters
-Bottle of Marinara sauce
-Mixture of your choice: meats, veggies, cheese, or a combination
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees
Roll the dough, cut in half or in quarters
-Spread sauce on the dough
-Top the sauce with the mixture of your choice
-Be sure the dough is filled with plenty of stuffing!
-Fold the dough over to the opposite edge. Creating a semi-circle. Roll or pinch the edge tightly. Make a small slit with a knife. brush with egg wash. Place on a baking pan or baking stone.
-Bake in a preheated over for13-15 minutes, or until the top of the dough is golden.
-Plate the calzone with a side serving of marinara sauce
Stuffing is optional. Meat, vegetables, or jut cheese. Meats like sausage crumbles with pepperoni, ground hamburger, even prosciutto, mortadella, and other Italian cured meats.
If only vegetables, consider sauteed spinach in garlic and olive oil, broccoli rabe, or a mixture of zucchini, squash and mushroom with onions and garlic.
If only cheese, think of ricotta, mozzarella, provolone, and grated cheese
